Ok,
I know I havent been updating the results of whats going on in the learning to design a site world. I must say Ruby on Rails is quite easy and intuitive. On my test system I have gotten a very crude site up and running. The graphics aren’t anything to write home about, but it works.
RailsSpace, the book I’m reading from, helps alot. There are some areas where it lacking. For a neophyte like myself I periodically had to venture out of the book into the web to get clarification. I don’t know if the various updates , since the publishing of the book, on the bundle I installed had anything to do with the discrepancies; none-the-less there were some.
I left email for one of the authors Michael Hartl, who was surprisingly easy to reach and attempted to help which was great. All and all I must say RoR and RailsSpace have been a great combined experience.
Let me throw in this disclaimer, I am by no means proficient in it, but it lets me know the interface is easy to navigate and within a few hours to days you can manipulate it well enough to get a basic and functional site going.
Hats off to RoR and RailsSpace.
I tried to make a video of what it looks like using Snagit8, but the computer crashed when I tried to save the video. I will try again sooner or later and see if I can leave you guys a quick clip.
I’ll be starting on the PHP side soon and will definitely keep you guys informed. I’m trying to figure out which framework to use with PHP though. I was told to look into Codelgniter.
Any ideas or input would be appreciated.
Thanks
F
